This is The Ultimate Artisan Grilled Cheese!! Forget the flimsy white bread and processed cheese slices! This recipe elevates the humble grilled cheese... We're talking crusty, homemade bread that crackles with every bite, a creamy, tangy spread that complements the cheeses perfectly, and a molten duo of Havarti and cheddar that stretches like a dream. This recipe goes perfect with Tomato Soup!



The Secret Weapon: The Spread

This ain't your average mayo situation. We're creating a spread masterpiece by combining mayonnaise with a touch of Dijon mustard for a delightful kick.  Parmesan cheese adds a nutty depth, and a pinch of salt and pepper ties everything together. Spread this magic concoction generously on both slices of your homemade bread – trust us, it'll make all the difference.


We're layering Havarti cheese, known for its creamy texture and mild flavor, with shredded cheddar cheese, bringing that classic sharp bite. This combination creates a melty, gooey masterpiece with a perfect balance of flavors.


The Golden Touch:

To achieve that irresistible golden brown crust, we'll rub a little oil on the outside of each bread slice. Then, heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. Once hot, carefully place your assembled sandwich in the pan.


The Steam Trick:

Here's the secret to perfectly melted cheese without burning the bread: add a tablespoon of cold water to the pan. Then,quickly cover the pan with a lid. The steam will create a magical environment that melts the cheese beautifully without overcooking the bread.



The Grand Finale:

Keep an eye on your sandwich, and once the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown and crispy, it's time to devour! Carefully remove the lid and transfer your masterpiece to a plate. Cut it in half (or don't, we won't judge!), grab your favorite dipping sauce (tomato soup, anyone?), and prepare to be amazed.

Recipe: (Makes 3 Sandwiches)

  • 6 Slices of bread of choice, I use my Crusty No-Knead Bread! but your favorite store-bought bread works too!)

  • 6 Slices Havarti cheese

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • For the Spread:

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese

  • Âź teaspoon salt

  • Âź teaspoon pepper


Directions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the mayo, Dijon mustard, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create a creamy and flavorful spread.

  2. Prepare your cheese station – lay out the Havarti slices and have the shredded cheddar readily available.

  3. Spread the magic concoction generously on one side of each bread slice. Top one slice with a Havarti cheese slice, then sprinkle with some shredded cheddar. Repeat with the remaining bread slices,creating cheesy goodness between both slices.

  4. Drizzle a little oil on a plate and rub it onto the outside of each assembled sandwich – this helps achieve that perfect golden brown crust.

  5. Place a pan over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of oil. Once hot, carefully place your sandwiches in the pan.

  6. For melty cheese perfection, add 1 tablespoon of cold water to the pan. Immediately cover the pan with a lid. The steam will work its magic, melting the cheese beautifully.

  7. Keep an eye on your sandwiches! Once the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown and crispy on the outside, it's time to enjoy! Carefully remove the lid and transfer your masterpieces to plates.

  8. Cut your sandwiches in half (or not!), grab your favorite dipping sauce, and savor the symphony of flavors in every bite!
