Ritz Bitz Puppy Chow
Let me be very clear: this is not your childhood puppy chow.
Actually—it is, but like… if it went off to college, discovered peanut butter Ritz Bitz, and came back cooler, louder, and a little bit chaotic. This is the snack you make when you’re craving something nostalgic but also extra. Like, “oops I accidentally ate the whole bowl while watching The Office reruns” levels of extra.
What Is Puppy Chow?
(P.S. You might know it as Muddy Buddies.)
Classic puppy chow is Chex cereal coated in a mix of melted chocolate, peanut butter, and butter, then tossed in powdered sugar. It’s crunchy, sweet, messy in the best way, and deeply Midwestern. And while the OG will always have a place in my heart, this version?
This version is unhinged—in the best possible way.
What Makes This Version Better?
- No cereal. We’re using Ritz Peanut Butter Bits, aka little sandwich cookies of buttery-cracker-peanut-butter perfection.
- The texture? A little softer, a little gooier, a little more “I can’t stop eating this, send help.”
- It’s salty-sweet perfection. Like if peanut butter cups and Ritz crackers had a snack baby and rolled it in sugar.
Tips & Variations
- Want it extra crunchy? Pop it in the fridge for 10–15 minutes after coating to set.
- Add-ins: Mini Reese’s, crushed pretzels, or chopped peanuts = major win.
- Make it festive: Toss in colored sprinkles or M&Ms for holidays or game day.
Final Thoughts
This Ritz Bitz Puppy Chow is salty, sweet, peanut-buttery chaos in the absolute best way. It’s nostalgic, addictive, and wildly easy to make. It doesn’t require baking, it doesn’t pretend to be classy, and it will ruin your self-control in one bite.
And honestly? We love her for that.
Tag me if you make it! @kdamitz
I want to see the powdered sugar fingers and the snack bowl carnage. 🫶
Ritz Bitz Puppy Chow

Ingredients
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- ½ cup milk chocolate chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp butter salted or unsalted
- tsp vanilla extract
- 2 boxes of Ritz Bitz Peanut Butter Sandwiches
- powdered sugar (just dump it)
Instructions
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, toss in the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave for about 1 minute, then give it a good stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy. If there are still a few chocolate chips hanging on, keep stirring—they’ll melt in the warmth. Add the vanilla and stir it in.
- Now gently fold in your Ritz Peanut Butter Bits until they’re fully coated in that glorious mixture. Once everything’s covered, transfer the mix to a bowl with a lid (or large zip-top bag). Pour in the powdered sugar (dump as much or as little as you like), seal it up tight, and shake like your snack life depends on it. If you spot any stubborn clusters, break them up with your hands or give it another shake to evenly coat.
- Spread the coated bites out onto parchment or wax paper and let them cool in the fridge or freezer for 5–10 minutes. Once set, store in an airtight container—if they last that long.
